The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed in principle to reduce the prohibition tax (WHT) on the purchase of property on the purchase of property starting from April 2025. However, tax rates for property vendors will remain unchanged, according to the news.
Lowering property buyers: IMF has approved a 2% decrease in WHT under Section 236K, making real estate investment more attractive.
No tax relief for vendors: Despite the requests of low WHT under Section 236C from the Federal Revenue Board (FBR), IMF has decided to keep it unchanged.
Reduction in Federal Excise Duty (Fed): The high slab of the fed for property buyers will decrease from 10% to 9%, which will reduce the cost of transactions.
Reduced tax collection for March 2025: Due to Eid ul-Fitr Holidays, FBR’s tax collection target has been reduced to 60 billion rupees.
Management of circular debt crisis: The IMF has approved a scheme for Pakistan to raise Rs. 1,257 billion from banks to manage the circular debt crisis of the ongoing power sector.
This decision is expected to promote real estate investment, facing financial challenges in the energy sector.
