Before the registration of the power of attorney in Pakistan, the power of attorney needs to be registered in the Pakistani Consulate or Pakistani Embassy of the country where the principal is residing.

How to Attest for Power of Attorney:

The following process is done to get power of attorney from Overseas Pakistani Citizens.

Document or draft a Power of Attorney on a stamp paper, either agent can do it themselves or take the legal professional help too
Send it to the person living abroad (who is going to be the principal) through the embassy
The principal then needs to visit the Pakistani Embassy or consulate in the country of their stay to receive the document
The principal will need to sign that document and get it stamped by the embassy
The agent will get the document attested by a notary public
The document or Power of Attorney is then shipped back to Pakistan after this process
The agent will visit the office of Foreign Affairs to get the document verified/attested
Finally, the registrar of District Courts will attest the document and agent will get an attested copy.

Requirements for the attestation of Power of Attorney:

The original power of attorney and a few copies
Application form for attestation of power of attorney
His original passport along with its copy
His original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) along with its copy
Two recent passport-size photographs affixed on power of attorney next to the place of signature
In case the document of power of attorney extends to more than one page, each page will have to be signed
Copies of the agent’s CNIC and that of the witnesses
Processing fee in the form of a postal money order or bank cheque featuring foreign currency used by that country.

The document will be attested by the authorities and the Power of Attorney will be able to move on to the next phase.

Cancellation of Power of Attorney:

The Principal can cancel the Power of Attorney at any time due to multiple of reasons. In case of the death of the Attorney or the Principal, it will be canceled automatically. In the first instance, the concerned Registrar where Power of Attorney is registered will cancel it and it will also be published in a newspaper. Power of Attorney will also be canceled if the job/assignment for which it was given is completed.
